What does Brady's Pond have to offer?

Why do we need your help?

I
With every rainfall ,fertilizers from lawns flow into the lake water. With the increased nutrients provided by the fertilizer, hot summer weather and a shallow lake whose average depth is about 6 1/2 feet, green algae "blooms" can happen overnight turning the lake green with vegetative growth.
Increased Canada geese populations that stay for the summer are enormously problematic as their droppings feed the growth of algae in the lake. Past summers of high temperatures and low rain have been very challenging.
THE FUTURE IS UNCERTAIN.WE TAKE EACH YEAR AS IT COMES.
A recent analysis Rutgers University School of Environmental Science concluded that as a result of roadway run off and an increasing load of organic debris( largely from adjacent parkland and goose populations) , Brady's Pond has become Eutrophic. With this in mind it becomes increasingly important that lake management , weed reduction and algae prevention are foremost in our maintenance plan going forward.
There is nothing that we can do to change the diagnosis but we can live with the problem, treat the symptoms and hopefully prevent it from becoming worse.
It will not be an easy thing to do...
In order to maintain the pond a number of measures must be taken in order to preserve and /or restore the damage already done to Brady's Pond.
OUR MISSION...
The Grasmere and Cameron Lakes Bluebelt Conservancy (GCLBC) was formed in order to assist in providing programs and measures to preserve and maintain the water and ecosystem of Brady's Pond.
